Dickey Betts was a Grammy Award winning guitarist, singer, songwriter and composer. Raised in Brandenton, Florida, he started playing ukulele at the age of five and, as his hands got bigger, moved on to mandolin, banjo, and guitar. Betts had a deep love and knowledge about a wide range of music, including jazz, country, Western Swing, acoustic and electric blues and folk.
In 1969 Betts became a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band and was consitistantly recognized for his collaboration with Duane Allman, as the twosome introduced the melodic twin guitar harmony and counterpart, which would become known as Southern rock. Betts was the writer and singer on the Allmans' hit single "Ramblin' Man," and was inducted with The Allman Brothers Band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
In 1977 Betts formed the Band Dickey Betts & Great Southern. In 2000 the band added Bett's son, Duane Betts, on lead guitar.
